Ingredients

  • 1 cup ground flax seed
  • 1/4 cup chia seeds
  • 1/3 cup sesame seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tbs cumin seeds
  • 1 tbs coriander seeds lightly crushed
  • 11/4 cup water

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the dry ingredients. Mix well, ensuring all the ingredients are evenly distributed. Add the water and stir until a dough forms. Allow the mixture to sit for 3-5 minutes until the chia seeds absorb the water.
  • With the spatula (and a hand, if necessary), spread the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet in two small rectangles about 3 to 6 mm thick. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter score the dough into roughly equal sized pieces. These crackers are meant to be rustic so don’t worry if your lines aren’t perfectly straight or the crackers aren’t the exact same size!
  • Bake the crackers for 50-60 minutes, rotating the pan half-way through, until the crackers are completely dry. Watch closely near the end to make sure the crackers don’t burn.
The baking time will depend on your oven and the thickness of the crackers.
  • Once baked, remove the crackers from the oven and allow to cool in the pan for 10 -15 minutes. They will continue to crisp up as they cool down.
Break the crackers into squares and allow to cool completely before storing.
  • Store in an airtight container or jar on the counter for up to 2 weeks. You can also freeze the crackers in freezer bags for up to 1 month.
  • The crackers will keep for up to 2 weeks, stored in an airtight container on the counter. If you live in a humid area and your crackers lose some of their crispness, pop them in a toaster oven, or regular oven for 3-5 minutes, once cooled they will be returned to their delicious crispness.
