Fuseta Portugal – A Hidden Gem in Eastern Algrave
Welcome to Fuseta, a small fishing village in the heart of the Ria Formosa Natural Park on the eastern Algarve of Portugal. This hidden gem of a town is a perfect escape from the bustling cities and overcrowded tourist hotspots. The beach in Fuseta is one of the town’s biggest attractions. There is actually two beaches, Praia da Fuseta , or the “town” beach is within walking distance of the town, while Praia da Ilha da Fuseta is just a 15 minute ferry ride! Praia da Fuseta is on the lagoon-side, so the water is slightly warmer, and the waves are non-existent making it an ideal beach for families with young children. It’s a great spot to try our your paddleboarding and kayaking skills. On windy days it’s also a magnet for wind surfers and kite surfers making for a colourful display.
My personal favorite part of Fuseta, and another must-see attraction is the Ria Formosa, and Evovia trail. Take a walk, or rent some bikes and explore the natural beauty of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, taking in the stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The Ecovia takes visitors through several different ecosystems, including salt marshes, sand dunes, and freshwater lagoons, and provides opportunities to spot a variety of wildlife, including flamingos, herons, and other wading birds. One of the most unique aspects of Fuseta is its fishing heritage. The town is home to a bustling fishing port, where visitors can watch the fishermen bring in their catch of the day and even buy fresh fish straight off the boat. The town also hosts a traditional fish market, where visitors can sample some of the freshest seafood in the region. You will also spot dozens of locals out clamming when the tide is out, sample them later in one of the local restaurants, or take some home and steam them with a little garlic and white wine, finished off with some coriander.
